In 2013, Northeast Georgia Farm to School was first implemented in Habersham and Rabun counties through the Food Bank’s partnership with Georgia Organics and Food Corps.

The Food Bank assumed responsibility for Northeast Georgia Farm to School programming in January 2016. Northeast Georgia Farm to School now works closely with Habersham, Rabun, Clarke, Barrow, Jackson, Franklin, and Madison counties to support farm to school initiatives at both individual school and district-wide levels. Through Northeast Georgia Farm to School, the Food Bank has hosted School Nutrition Director gatherings, taste tests in schools and summer food service sites, and is planning additional courses which will bring farmers, chefs and school staff together to ensure that all children have equal access to fresh, locally grown food.

Northeast Georgia Farm to School is a proud service site for two FoodCorps Service Members. FoodCorps, part of the AmeriCorps National Service Network, strives to connect kids to healthy food in schools by promoting via service hands-on garden-based lessons, healthy school meals, and a schoolwide culture of health. Our current FoodCorps Service Members serve in Habersham and Jackson counties, and partner with both teachers and school nutrition staff to nurture their farm to school efforts.
