Welcome, Volunteers!

Volunteers are vital to the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia’s mission of connecting neighbors with nourishing food. Whether you provide administrative support, pack food boxes, or sort donations, volunteers are deeply appreciated and help us ensure every neighbor has enough food everyday.

Volunteer opportunities scheduled first-come, first served. Large groups must schedule their events 8 weeks in advance to ensure a time slot. We cannot guarantee time slots for events on short notice.

In addition, we ask that volunteers arrive no more than 15 minutes before your session starts and promptly leave after the session ends. This allows our staff sufficient time to prepare and clean up after the volunteer session. Thank you for honoring these requests.

Please note that we do not offer court-mandated community service.

Can I just show up to volunteer? Why not?

To create a safe and enjoyable volunteer experience, every volunteer is required to register in advance and sign up for a shift that has available slots. This helps our staff to coordinate activities with our warehouse and to ensure we don’t have too many people in our buildings at one time.

How do I sign a large group up for shifts?
arrow_circle_uparrow_circle_up

We ask groups with less than 10 volunteers to have each volunteer sign up for their shifts individually.

For groups exceeding 10 volunteers, please contact awilson@foodbanknega.org with the following information: The name of your group or organization, how many volunteers plan to attend, which timeframe works best for your group. (morning or afternoon)

To ensure a time slot, we recommend that large groups schedule their events 8 weeks in advance. We cannot guarantee time slots for events at short notice. We are unable to schedule repeat monthly volunteer shifts.

How old do I have to be to volunteer?
arrow_circle_uparrow_circle_up

Volunteers must be 12 years old or older to volunteer. Children between the ages of 12-13 must be accompanied by an adult who is also volunteering alongside them for the entire volunteer shift.

Volunteers over the age of 14 are allowed to volunteer on their own! We ask the parents or legal guardians to bring their young volunteers for a tour of our facility or volunteer alongside their children for the first volunteer shift before they can volunteer on their own.

An adult must register all minors through Bloomerang Volunteer.

The Food Bank is happy to welcome student groups from 6th grade and up. We invite 20 volunteers per group with a minimum of 2-3 chaperones. Each session, students will volunteer for 60 minutes followed by a 30-minute tour of the Food Bank where they are encouraged to ask questions about our work and food insecurity.

What kind of opportunities do you offer?
arrow_circle_uparrow_circle_up

There are a variety of activities that our volunteers may be asked to complete when volunteering with us. These activities include packing food boxes or sorting donations from our retail partners. We are unable to tell you what activity you will be doing ahead of time as our activities are based on the needs of our warehouse and Sharing Floor.

What should I wear?

Since we are an active warehouse, we ask all volunteers to wear closed-toe and closed-heeled shoes (tennis shoes), long pants, and shirts with sleeves and torsos covered (t-shirts). We have scrubs available if you are not in appropriate attire.

Headphone and cell phone usage is prohibited while volunteers are working.

Do you have any weekend or evening opportunities?
